Austin's current top five
Ashes Concrete Encasement 2xC-10 (Dead Medium) With Taint no longer active, Ashes gives Steel Hook Prosthesis serious competition for the best Power Electronics from Texas thrown. Hate-filled, vile loathing positively drips from this cassette box, with sounds ranging from ultra-violence to brooding pulsations. I'd say "nice work" but it is decidedly not nice.
TEF Cast 3"CDr (Pitchphase) Extremely well-crafted cut-up noise from this long running project, captured in two tracks of just the right length. Jap Noise from Sealy, Texas???
Corephallism s/t 3" (Lascivious Aesthetics/Apop Records) New project from twodeadsluts onegoodfuck member. It has a definite old school low-fi transgressive industrial feel that could easily be mistaken for a Broken Flag tape. No I am talking about REAL industrial like MB, not faux industrial like NIN. In any case, this release is as good or even better than the hype that has accompanied it.
The Vomit Arsonist Wretch CD (Cipher Productions / Force of Nature) Power Electronics that deals with life's less seemly aspects. But wait! There are a pile of surprises as you work your way through this CD - sounds crop up that shouldn't fit in a PE record but actually do quite well. This visceral and unpredictable release should get this project the attention that it deserves.
Andrew Liles + Jean-Hevre Peron Fini! CD (Dirter)Most-of-the-time Nurse With Wound member Liles and Faust member Peron team up for a rollicking psychedelic outing that almost eclipses the Nurse With Wound + Faust Dislocation 2xLP. Syncopated kraut-rock beats in places, jarring noise in others and both at the same time in still others. Even better than I expected it to be, and my expectations were very high.
